Do you have cataracts that make it difficult to see the world around you? There’s a good chance that it may be time to think about cataract surgery.

Having cataract surgery is great because you can experience clear vision again! But besides cataract surgery, you need to think about what IOL you’ll want.

This is the artificial lens that will replace your natural lens. Your natural lens is where your cataract has formed. Cataract surgery removes your natural lens along with your cataract.

An IOL is an artificial lens replacement. A standard IOL will give you clear vision but you’ll still need to wear glasses after cataract surgery.

Premium IOLs will restore and correct your vision. You’ll likely end up with the best vision you’ve ever had! The best part of IOLs is that they won’t age and their results are permanent.

Opting for a premium IOL is one choice you will not regret. There are several types of premium IOLs to choose from. Keep reading to learn more about premium IOLs that Stahl Eyecare offers our patients!

Monovision

Monovision IOLs allow one eye to focus at a distance and the other to focus at a near and immediate distance. These implants include monofocal lenses, toric lens implants, and crystalline implants.

They can decrease your depth perception. Still, the restored vision level makes this a great IOL choice.

Toric Implants

The Acrysof IQ toric implant corrects astigmatism. This lens allows patients to no longer need glasses for distance vision.

Astigmatism is a common refractive error. Refractive errors are the result of an irregularly shaped cornea.

At your cataract surgery consultation, your surgeon will measure your astigmatism level. Your surgeon will align the Acrysof IQ toric IOL with your pre-measured astigmatism level during your surgery.

This process corrects more than 90% of all pre-existing astigmatism. This is true even with patients with high levels of astigmatism.

Multifocal IOLs

A multifocal IOL will allow your eyes to focus at a distance and up close. This is a lot like bifocal progressive eyeglasses. There are several available multifocal IOLs.

Tecnis Symfony IOL

This is the first-ever IOL that corrects both presbyopia and cataracts. The cutting-edge technology inside these IOLs provides for clear vision up close.

This comes without decreasing your distance vision. The Tecnis Symfony IOL has been proven to decrease both halos and glare.

These are two of the most common side effects of multifocal IOLs. With the Symfony IOL, you can correct both astigmatism and cataracts at once. That’s the power of the Tecnis Symfony IOL.

Restor Multifocal Implant

This multifocal lens is extremely efficient at correcting your cataracts and vision. Clinical studies have shown that 80% of patients with a Restor implant no longer need glasses.

94% of patients reported they would choose this IOL again if given the choice. A couple of downsides of the Restor Multifocal Implant include glare and halos.

About 5% of patients with this implant have reported these side effects to be significantly bothersome.

Tecnis-R Multifocal Implant

The Tecnis-R Multifocal implant is another effective multifocal IOL. It corrects your vision at all distances.

This includes near, intermediate, and far distances. This implant is specifically designed for clearer vision from 13 inches to 20 feet and beyond.

The side effects of the Tecnis-R multifocal lens also include halos and glare. About 5% of patients with the Tecnis implant report these side effects to be quite bothersome.

There are other IOLs available but it’s important to note that these are the ones that our practice provides to patients.
